Otto Skorzeny (12 June 1908 – 5 July 1975) was an Austrian SS-Obersturmbannführer (lieutenant colonel) in the German Waffen-SS during World War II.After fighting on the Eastern Front, he was chosen as the field commander to carry out the rescue mission that freed the deposed Italian dictator Benito Mussolini from captivity. Otto Skorzeny was a noted German commando leader during World War II. Otto Skorzeny conducted the rescue of Benito Mussolini in 1943 and later played a key role in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, Otto Skorzeny worked with ODESSA and as a security consultant. Otto Skorzeny became a rich businessman in Spain; he succeeded in winning the most important post-war railway contract with a phenomenal value of five million dollars at the time.
